John Hallett, age 54, was arrested at his apartment at 15 Chester Street in Cambridge on an outstanding murder warrant, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Hallett is accused of beating his roommate with a blunt object before choking him to death in 2017 in Michigan City, Indiana, per a police investigation. Hallett then disemboweled the body and stashed various body parts in multiple public trash cans, police said.

In August 2022, a police cadaver dog detected human remains in the basement of the home where Hallett and the roommate lived. A CSI team found decomposing flesh and evidence linking Hallett to the killing, police said.

Michigan City, Indiana, police issued a warrant for his arrest on a murder charge.

Michigan City Police and US Marshals tracked down Hallett to an apartment at 15 Chester Street in Cambridge with the help of a Cambridge police detective.

Hallett was arrested and taken to the Cambridge Police Station, where he was booked as a fugitive from justice. He'll be extradited to Indiana to face a murder charge at some point in the future.
